Restoring the engine

2008-05 - Cylinder heads overhauled
In mid-May 2008, my engine started to run very irregularly. One of the cylinders no longer had any compression. So I took the car to the garage. After replacing the ignition distributor, the engine was taken apart. It was discovered that 2 cylinder heads were gone.
As 2 new heads were quite expensive, I asked Bandit-Online forums for alternatives. I got to know Ilja Apel from Breka-Tuning, who offered to overhaul my existing heads, which was considerably cheaper. I accepted the offer.
2008-07 - Engine removal
The overhauled cylinder heads were reinstalled by my garage at the end of July. Unfortunately, the car still didn't run any better and the cylinders still had no compression.
I then decided to have the engine completely overhauled by Breka-Tuning.
The engine was completely removed by my workshop and sent to Hamburg.
2008-08 - Complete overhaul of the engine
The engine has now been completely dismantled by Breka-Tuning.
The cause of the damage was quickly identified: some of the piston rings were completely crumbled or even firmly "welded" to the piston. Ilya had never seen anything like it.
Apparently the engine has been tinkered with in the past.
Ilja completely reconditioned the engine. All parts were cleaned and replaced with new parts where necessary.
The engine block was painted black. Overall, the engine is now almost as good as new.
2008-09 - Engine installed
The engine has since been reinstalled in the car and ran perfectly in the first test.
Unfortunately, it did not start again shortly afterwards. Various tests therefore had to be carried out, which were unfortunately unsuccessful.
2008-10-12 - K.I.T.T. for repair in Hamburg
Unfortunately, it was not possible to get the engine's ignition problems under control.
I therefore decided to take the entire car to the workshop in Hamburg on 18th October 2008. As it couldn't drive under its own power, I rented a trailer to transport the car.
The engine was finally repaired in Hamburg, so that I was able to pick it up again on 30th December 2008. The car has been running perfectly ever since. After all the work, the engine is almost "as good as new".
